Prominent journalist was killed in Almaty

Famous in Kyrgyzstan journalist Gennady Pavluk, better known by his pen name Ibraghim Rustambek died at 06.00 a.m. on December 22, 2009. He did not come to his senses, because of numerous traumas.

On December 16, 2009 Pavluk was found and laid unconscious on abat-jour of entrance of a house on Furmanov Street of Almaty. His hands and legs were bound by tape. Service certificate was found in pocket of his jacket in the name of Gennady Pavluk. He has been general director of the Internet-edition “Belyi parokhod”.

Gennady Pavluk has been in comatose. He had numerous fractured ribs and craniocerebral trauma with hematoma. As a result of it he was sent to one of the clinical hospitals. Police officers thought that this crime was devoted to the range of attempt on contract murder. Journalist was protected by special security officers in resuscitation unit.

Law-enforcement organs opened criminal case and began an investigation of this crime. They knew that the flat has been on sixth floor and rented. Gennady Pavluk was thrown from window of this flat.

Police officers made a search of this flat. As a result of it they found roll of tape, keys from hotel room of the hotel Kazakhstan” (Pavluk lived there); an empty laptop bag. But, son of Gennady Pavluk Jaroslav said that laptop was put safe away. He refused to speak about information in laptop.

Colleagues of Gennady Pavluk thought that it was special organized terrorist act, connected with professional activity of the journalist.

Special information: Gennady Pavluk has been head of Kyrgyz Representative Office of the newspaper “Argumenty I Facty”, chief editor of the newspaper “Belyi parokhod” and has been in charge of the newspaper “Komsomolskaya Pravda” in Kyrgyzstan. He wanted to make information Internet-edition and newspaper of the party “Ata-Meken”, headed by opposition politician Omurbek Tekebayev. It was planned to do it till the end of 2009.

Press Agency “24.kg” (Kyrgyzstan) informed that journalists of one of Kazakhstan’s editions decided to make their own investigation. They checked information that Gennady Pavluk intended to collect facts and materials about transnational criminal group specializing in foreign car theft by order for his next publication. Kazakhstan’s mass media published material on denunciation of criminal group at the end of November 2009. There was information on theft of foreign cars from all Central Asian countries practically.
