«Adil Soz” position on the arrest of Nurzhan Baimudin, and not just that
As it was reported, on January 12, Nurzhan Baimuldin, editor-in-chief of the Russian news service of Kokshetau-Asia, was detained. On the same day he was sentenced to 10 days of arrest. He asked the president of the country some questions through his post on the social network. It was considered an action provoking a violation of law and order in emergency conditions.
At that the civil rights of Nurzhan Baimuldin were grossly violated. He was summoned to the police, allegedly under the pretext of talking to the deputy head of the police department. In accordance with the law, police had to serve a summons, indicating the purpose of the summons, the person to talk to, the address and the time of the meeting. If a person is summoned for interrogation, he/she has the right to appear with a lawyer. If a person is summoned by phone, police has to provide all these information verbally.
It should be noted that Baimuldin was enticed intopolice by deceit, there he was illegally detained until the trial and had been deprived of the right to call a lawyer for several hours.
Nurzhan Baimuldin's posts on Facebook are nothing more than the exercise of his legal right to express his opinion. They do not contain extremist and other illegal appeals and do not provoke a violation of law and order. In any case, a preliminary expert evaluation of controversial posts had to be done by specialists as a grounds such accusations. It could not be done by police, in a hurry and by guess and by gosh.
The case of Nurzhan Baimuldin is not the only one of its kind. Mass summons for interrogation, hasty detentions, quick accusations and arrests of journalists do not contribute to public confidence in the renewed government institutions. This situation must be switched into a civilized legal channel.
