"Taming" Amangeldy Batyrbekov: from prosecution to crime

4 january 2022

As it was reported, on the night of January 4, unknown persons shot and wounded the son of Amangeldy Batyrbekov the editor of the newspaper "Saryagash info". It happened in the village of Saryagash, Turkestan region, near the house where the journalist lives.

The following is known by now:

After the operation,  Dinmukhamed, the son of Amangeldy Batyrbekov, was transferred from the intensive care unit to the ward. Since night the journalist's wife has been in the hospital next to their son.

Special police group including officers from the regional criminal police department, headed by the deputy head of the Turkestan region police department, police lieutenant colonel K. Sakhov is taking investigative measures in Batyrbekob’s house and at the construction goods store near by , where Dinmukhamed works and where he was wounded.

As the journalist commented on the phone, he is now filing a claim to police and names those who ordered the crime – the persons he mentioned on his Facebook page.

As it was reported, in November, the journalist announced that he would soon publish an investigation called "What are the links between the deputy of the Turkestan regional maslikhat (local counsil), the prosecutor of the Shymkent city prosecutor's office and the deputy chairman of the anti-corruption agency." 4 days ago, he published a critical article about a medical institution in "Saryagash info" newspaper, calling  the Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan A. Giniyat and Prosecutor of the Turkestan Region M. Alikhanov to pay attention. Few hours before the attempted murder of his son the journalist  posted another article “ Zhanaozen: the changes began”.

The journalist's articles as a rule, are critical to the activities of local officials. Officials have repeatedly tried to "tame" him by threats and convictions, but there has been no attempted murder so far.
