Inaction of policemen following attack on journalists in Almaty to be checked by internal security directorate
Almaty. December 10. KazTAG - The internal security
directorate will check inaction of policemen, failure to open a case following
attack on the journalists in the press-center of Kazakhstani international
bureau for human rights and rule of law, said Andrey Grishin, editor of
bureau.kz internet site.
"Our lawyer Inara Masanova claimed to check inaction of policemen, who did
not open a case following attack on the journalists by the internal security
directorate of Almaty, reads the reply to the claim of lawyer signed by deputy
prosecutor of Almaty S. Yermekbayev. As we know investigation will start on
Friday," he said at the press-conference.
During the press conference, the journalist told in detail about the police inaction.
As it was reported, on July 22 journalists were attacked in the office of the Kazakhstan International Bureau for Human Rights and Rule of Law (KIBPCHiSZ) in Almaty at a press conference devoted to the persecution of mothers where mother of Oksana Shevchuk - mother of many children - and lawyer Galym Nurpeisov were expected to speak. (Later Oksana was sentenced to one year of restraint of liberty for allegedly participating in the activities of the DCK extremist organization banned in the Republic of Kazakhstan). The press conference was disrupted, equipment was stolen from the staff of KazTAG news agency, and the cameras of the journalists of the Almaty and Radio Azattyk TV channels were completely broken. Police was called but did not take any action against the attackers. Later, it occurred that Akzhol Akhmetova, who was among the attackers, introduced herself as an assistant to the akim (mayor) of the Alatau district of Almaty, Shahmerden Ryspaev at one of protest rallies and urged to listen to him. It also turned out that Zhetkenshek Zhumakanov, the husband of Akhmetova, is an inspector of the religious affairs department of the Almaty region.
