The trial of Amangeldy Batyrbekov: to be continued

On November 22, the court session the board appeals of the Turkestan Regional Court of the case of journalist Amangeldy Batyrbekov ended earlier than expected.

The reason was granting of several motions of the defendant. Government employees from Saryagash were invited as witnesses of the defense for November 25. The High Court also decided to request seven employment record books of school principals of the area.

As it was reported,  on September 23, 2019, the Saryagash district court of the Turkestan region found sentenced civil activist, editor of the newspaper Saryagash info Amangeldy Batyrbekov guilty in defamation and insult and sentenced him to two years and 3 months in prison. The victim is Bakhtiyar Abdiev, the head of the education department of the Keles region, of whom Batyrbekov  published a number of critical posts on his Facebook page.

As before, the court prohibited broadcasting of the process online and  use of smartphones. Only TV chanells cameras were allowed.
