The second day of the holiday - the second day of detentions
Civil society activists report that detentions of journalists and human rights activists, who intended to lay flowers at the Independence Memorial, continued on December 17 in Almaty.
“The reader-in-chief of the newspaper “DAT - Social position” Yermurat Bapi was detained. Journalist Miras Nurmukhanbetov, informed that he managed to leave after personal identity. Human rights activist Yerlan Kaliev was detained. Gulzhan Yergaliyeva wrote that, according to Rysbek Sarsenbayuly, Kystaubaev and Sundetkaliyev were detained. She decided to lay flowers later in order not to suffer the same fate.
Most of the detainees are interrogated and thier phones are examined in an effort to detect involvement to the DCK (Democratic Choice of Kazakhstan, banned organization).
