Welcome to the briefing, we have nothing to say
On March 20, the press center of the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) of the West Kazakhstan region invited Uralsk journalists to a briefing to tell about an unknown dead woman found near the city police department.
The press-secretary came out to the journalists and said: "Cancelled. There will be no briefing. We got a call from the Department of Internal Affairs and they told us to keep silence”.
The astonished journalists called the head of the Directorate of Internal Affairs Mr. Aikenov, the press secretary of the prosecutor's office of the the West Kazakhstan region Ms.Ibrasheva, the deputy prosecutor of the region Mr.Tsurankov, the head of the DIA press center Mr.Zhusupkaliev. They waited for more than an hour, but none of the offcicials commented.
According to Ural journalists, it has become impossible to cooperate with the DIA and the Directorate of Internal Affairs. As usual, the information is provided three days after the incident, when the news are stale. Journalists have to wait for the information to be approved by officials before they can tell it to their readers.
