Zhanbolat Mamay: "We just did our duty honestly as our consciences dictated”

7 september 2017

Mamay said that he had enough time to rething everthing and to get the new angle for the situation.  He noted that the "Tribuna" has always been an independent newspaper, and no one dictated what to publish or interferred in the editorial policy. The staff expressed its position and  points of view on the local and global events in accordance with its personal principles.

The newspaper never fulfilled any political order. It was a platofrm for those who wanted to express his/her opninion and to tell the truth. Many Kazakhstani respectables were among the authors of the newspaper: Tulegen Zhukeev, Gulzhan Ergalieva, Tolganai Umbetalieva, Amirzhan Kosanov and others.

The project was launched in 2012 and Tulegen Zhukeyev was the first to help.

Zhanbolat Mamay noted that he had never been engaged in business and did not strain after that. The assistance he received in 2013 from Zharimbetov was gratuitous, since Zharimbetov himself said that he was giving money to support the development of the civil society. Zharimbetov never interfered into the newspaper's policy, and the newspaper did not depend on his opinion. If Zharimbetov wanted to launder money, he would find many other options, but not the newspaper, that could not bring any money back to him. All the money was spent on publishing the newspaper.

"We just did our duty honestly as our consciences dictated. Independent media should develop further on and enable citizens to talk openly about their problems”, Mamay said.

Zhanbolat thanked all his supported and assured that he would make every effort to ensure that civil society develops.

The verdict will be announced on September 7 at 12.00.
