The trial on Zhanbolat Mamay’s case: The fifth day

On August 29, Zhaksylyk Zharimbetov appeared for additional interrogation. He confirmed  Zhanbolat Mamay’s words that his meeting with the journalist did not take place in  M. Ablyazov’s office. According to Zharimbetov, Ablyazov told him to get aquainted with Mamay and associate with him.

Zhanbolat said that he met Zharimbetov in 2011, as he had stated, but in 2012.

Then the judge plunged into 10 volumes of case materials, it took him 45 minutes to study them. Time to time he announced the volume number, the page,  type of equipment (laptop, phone, tablet, etc.)  seized by the investigators, but said almost nothing about what information those gadgets contained. In fact, he did not announce the findings of the expert review.

As human rights activists suggested and the lawyer indirectly confirmed, the gadgets did not contain any evidence that Ablyazov sponsored Mamay's activities or gave him big money. According to lawyer Zhanar Balgabayeva, the conclusions of each volume said that the materials are not of interest.

The judge proposed to start the debate. Mamay objected, asking for more time to prepare. The prosecutor did not object.

The next hearing is scheduled for September 4, at noon.
