Health Department of West Kazakhstan region demands 10 million tenge from "Uralskaya Nedelya" ("Uralsk Week") newspaper

5 december 2016

Regional Health Department demands 10 million tenge from the newspaper for publication of the story about a kidnapped newborn baby.

Court hearings under claim brought by Health Department of West Kazakhstan region against "Uralskaya Nedelya" ("Uralsk Week") newspaper will begin on December 6 at Uralsk Court №2.

The cause of the claim was journalist Alla Zlobina's article “Uralsk family can not find a kidnapped baby” published in the online edition of the newspaper on July 14, 2016. The article Botkaevs family told that their 18-year-old daughter's newborn baby disappeared in the maternity clinic.

Later the newspaper published the continuation of the story, where it informed about the official version of law enforcement authorities, saying that the entire story of the kidnapped baby was a fiction.

Nevertheless the Health Department of West Kazakhstan region initiated a claim to the court №2 of Uralsk with the demand to publish a retraction and to enforce 10 mln tenge from "Uralskaya Nedelya" newspaper.
