Legal Literacy in the Age of AI: “Adil Soz” Foundation Holds Seminar for Media Professionals

For today’s journalists, legal literacy is just as essential as writing skills. This was the focus of the intensive seminar “Law and AI — Legal Challenges for Journalists”, held on August 7 in Semey.
The event was organized by the International Foundation for the Protection of Freedom of Speech “Adil Soz,” with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Journalists and bloggers from Semey, Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kostanay, and Almaty came together to discuss pressing issues and receive practical advice from the foundation’s leading media lawyer, Sergey Utkin.
The discussion covered everyday legal challenges faced by journalists — from rules on filming in public spaces to liability for comments and the risks of using AI. Participants examined real-life cases from their own work and learned how to respond in complex legal situations.
The event once again highlighted the strong demand within the media community for quality legal support. The “Adil Soz” Foundation will continue its work in this area. Stay tuned for our updates.
