Chairman of Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation Vsevolod Bogdanov addressed to the General Prosecutor of the Republic of Kazakhstan

The Chairman of Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation Vsevolod Bogdanov in his letter said the following: “Union of Journalists of the Russian Federation expresses its deep concern in relation to the detention of Chairman of Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan, Vice President of International Confederation of Journalistic Unions Seitkazy Matayev.

We know Seitkazy Matayev as a person, who has deserved authority and professional reputation in Kazakhstan among journalists of the Russian Federation and the other post-Soviet states. And we uphold the position of Union of Journalists of Kazakhstan which insists on conduction of clear and fair investigation of case on the merits of charges, brought against S. Matayev.

We believe, that political and economical circumstances, they should not interfere to free professional activity of journalists and professional organizations.

We express our belief, that law-enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan shall guarantee
maximum objectivity and glasnost; inform colleagues of Kazakhstan and international journalistic community about investigative process.
