“The Republic of Kazakhstan has always most highest standards of freedom of speech in comparison with some countries, significant opportunity for activity of independent media outlets and journalists. But, last events, subjected to prosecution of S. Matayev shall havesignificant impact on democratic and investment ratings of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

“But, at the same time it was noted, officers of National Bureau of Ant-Corruption used illegal undue influence on public opinion with regard to S. Matayev.

“We think, that unallowable fact of violation of presumption of innocence of the arrested S. Matayev took a place, acknowledging right of some states for criminal proceeding against media outlets and journalists. Representatives of financial police of Kazakhstan made an official statement. They stated, that S. Matayev committed financial embezzlements and violations, used illegal undue influence on public opinion and court.

An additional point to emphasize that investigated criminal case came off as attempt of restriction of freedom of speech in Kazakhstan.

“The fact, that criminal case was opened with regard to journalist and famous public figure in Kazakhstan and abroad took a place. It happened before parliamentarian elections. Experts undoubtedly understand it as an attempt of restriction of freedom of speech and influence and pressure upon independent media outlets and journalists of Kazakhstan.
