Court has passed sentence to organizer of attack on journalist Lukpan Akhmedyarov

On April 24, 2014 Specialized Interdistrict Court of Criminal Cases (West Kazakhstan Oblast) held Former Director of Children's Youth Sports School of Horse Sport Nurlan Takhambetov in organization of attempted homicide of journalist of the newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Lukpan Akhmedyarov. The court has sentenced Takhambetov to fourteen years of imprisonment with service of sentence in colony with a strict regime; except for it, he should recover KZT2000000 (1USD= 182.02) as moral damage compensation.
The Public Prosecutor asked court to find guilty N. Takhambetov also, under article 257 "Hooliganism" and article 235 "The Creation and Guidance of an Organized Criminal Group or Criminal Association (Criminal Organization), and Participation in a Criminal Association" of Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. N. Takhambetov was acquitted on these articles.
N. Takhambetov and L. Akhmedyarov disagreed with sentence. In Akhmedyarov's opinion during a lawsuit, guilt of the accused person was not proved, because charge in this part was based on evidences of three anonymous persons. L. Akhmedyarov says:"The most important and principal moment- neither investigative officers, nor court were unable to identify patrons of crime. This crime was committed because of his professional activity, according to charge-sheet and sentence. The second moment – it is his disagreement, concerning conviction of a person; L. Akhmedyarov and he did not receive obvious and irrefutable proofs of his guilt".
We would remind you that on the night of April 20, 2012 a journalist of the independent newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Lukpan Akhmedyarov was injured badly. Unknown men shot him with a traumatic (non-lethal) pistol and stabbed him eight times. The attack took place outside his home.

Askhat Takhambetov (he was a younger brother of N. Takhambetov) has been a head for crime, according to the investigative version was punished by deprivation of freedom for a period up to fourteen years of imprisonment with the forfeiture of property.
