Newspaper «Assandi Times» closed

On April 02, 2014 at 11.00 a.m. court bailiffs arrived at editorial office of the newspaper "Assandi Times" and sealed it. There were only journalists in the editorial office. The bailiffs initially tried to make all the journalists leave and put the entire premises under seal. On April 01, 2014 there was a trial of suit Public Prosecutor of Medeu District in Medeu District Court of Almaty without any members of its staff present. They had not been notified of the judicial proceedings, suit and had not been invited to attend the hearing.
Medeu District Court has passed judgment. It has banned publication of the newspaper "Assandi Times" as universal media "Respublika". We would remind you that, court has treated 8 newspapers and 23 websites of suit of Public Prosecutor of Almaty as universal media "Respublika" in the autumn of 2012. They were closed and accused in extremism supposedly, but some proofs were not furnished on a trial.
The newspaper "Assandi Times" had not been on the list of editions which were closed under court decision.
