One of attackers on journalist Igor Larra was detained in Aktobe

On August 22, 2013 police officers of Department of Internal Affairs of Aktobe have detained a person, who suspected in the attack on journalist Igor Larra. It was a twenty-seven years-old resident of Alga, who has been previously convicted for the same crime. The man told, that in the night of 21st August, 2013 he and his four friends have been near Aviagorodok and drunk beer; at this time a forty-years-old went out of porch. According to information from press release of Department of Internal Affairs of Aktobe, a detained person proposed to one his friends to ransack this man, he agreed and they followed him. Police officers provided details. A person, who suspected in the attack on journalist Igor Larra hurried after him, slapped cross his face and his friend began to stump him. At this time, some guys run up to him and began to rifle his pockets. They depredated him and run away.

Policemen took mobile phone "Nokia" from detained person which was attached to the materials of criminal case. There were operative and search arrangements.

We clarify, that policemen of Aktobe abnegated, that they denied him to timely medical examination. They did not believe that this attack on journalist was not connected with his professional activity. However, The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović condemned an attack on Igor Larra and called on law enforcement authorities to swiftly investigate the case.

“I am worried that another attack against a member of the media has occurred. The continuing violence against journalists is a direct assault on freedom of expression and it has to stop,” Mijatović said.
