Trial of attackers on Lukpan Akhmedyarov was launched

On May 14, 2013 Specialized Interdistrict Court of Criminal Cases (West Kazakhstan Oblast) has launched the first trial of Askhat Takhambetov, Mursalim Sultangereyev, Manarbek Akbulatov and Almaz Batyrkhairov. They were charged with attempted homicide on journalist of the newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Lukpan Akhmedyarov.
On a trial accussed said, that they had no homicidal intent, but they only wanted to intimidate L. Akhmedyarov. Also, they did not plead guilty themselves to the charge under article 235 "The Creation and Guidance of an Organised Criminal Group or Criminal Association (Criminal Organisation), and Participation in a Criminal Association" of Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Except for it, court has entertained action of L. Akhmedyarov, with regard to four accussed persons on recovery of moral damage. Journalist asked to recover (depending on role of attack participants in this crime) KZT5000000 from A. Takhambetov, per KZT2000000 from A. Batyrkhanov and M. Akbulatov and KZT1000000 from M. Sultangereyev. In its turn, the General Prosecutor Office in the interests of the state asked court to recover KZT258000 from accussed in profit of state for charges, related to the treatment of Lukpan (in particular, it was given after attempt on his life).
On a trial L. Akhmedyarov informed about his readiness to withdraw claim on recovery of moral damage, if they would call name of patron.
The next legal proceeding will be held on May 22-23, 2013.
We would remind you that on the night of April 20, 2012 a journalist of the independent newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Lukpan Akhmedyarov was injured badly. Unknown men shot him with a traumatic (non-lethal) pistol and stabbed him eight times. The attack took place outside his home.
In March, 2013 the Investigative Committee of Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has brought charge against them of two articles under article 96 "A Murder" and article 235 "The Creation and Guidance of an Organised Criminal Group or Criminal Association (Criminal Organisation), and Participation in a Criminal Association" of Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Four men were taken into custody. Askhat Takhambetov, he was thirty years-old and was head for crime, according to version of the investigation; Almaz Batyrkhairov, he was twenty-three years-old, who owned to the shooting at journalist from traumatic pistol; Manarbek Akbulatov, who owned to the stabbing of journalist Lukpan Akhmedyarov and Mursalim Sultangereyev, he was thirty four years old, he was a driver of car on which they moved in night of crime committment.
The case with regard to patrons of attempted homicide on journalist of the newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Lukpan Akhmedyarov was severed. On May 13, 2013 at press conference in Uralsk the Head of Department of Criminal Police of Department of Internal Affairs of West Kazakhstan Oblast Sergey Shevchenko informed that the police has believed that it could not be a person, it could be a group of people as a patron of attempt on life of L. Akhmedyarov. The most detailed information in the interests of the investigation was not disclosed.
