On December 19, 2012 editorial staff of newspaper "Golos Respubliki" and video portal "Stan.kz" have made a statement:

"We fear for our life and freedom of our people"

On December 19, 2012 KNB-agents came up to editorial offices of newspaper "Golos Respubliki" and video portal "Stan.kz". They intended to conduct a search there. Editorial staffs rented these offices, they had nothing to do with lessor; KNB-agents seized accounting records, office equipment and electronic media.

"We have grounds to believe that the conduction of search in office of video portal "Stan.kz" – it was a response on Day of Remembrance for Tragic Events Victims in Janaozen (in particular, it was organized by television channel "K+" on December 16, 2012). The main task of searching to silence dissenting mass media, using absolutely illegal methods. We are afraid of provocations (in particular, leafletsand drugs can be planted) and director of company Baurzhan Musirov can be detained. The founder of LLP "Stan-production" Elina Zhdanova commented this situation.

"We sure that the searching – it is an attempt to paralyze the activity of editorial staff of newspaper "Golos Respubliki". The state authority attempted to intimidate journalists, but they do not surrender. The Russian portal of newspaper "Respublika" functions, now. It is too far from Kazakhstan. Now, we are afraid of provocations, for example provocation with regard to Askar Moldashev, brother of newspaper publisher. Now, it is a turn of Guzyal Baydalinova, she was summoned to KNB at the beginning of the year and they decided to continue this case with regard to her". The editor of newspaper "Golos Respubliki" Tatiana Trubacheva thinks in that way.

Editorial staffs demanded that Kazakhstan's law-enforcement agencies stopped intimidation with regard to journalists and media workers. Mass media of Kazakhstan has no connection with events in Kazakhstan. Editorial staffs fly to human rights activists and international community for support. Please, help us to stop a great tornado of repressions.
