Reporter of Internet-resource Eurasianet.org Nathaniel Shenkkan was summoned by policemen of West Kazakhstan Oblast

An American journalist, reporter of Interrnet-resource Eurasianet.org Nathaniel Shenkkan has received summons in the evening on February 27, 2012. He should come to Department of Internal Affairs (West Kazakhstan Oblast) in Uralsk in the morning on February 28, 2012.

On February 26, 2012 Nathaniel Shenkkan came to Uralsk in the afternoon. He has stayed with rental apartment. Before his visit to Uralsk, he has been in Mangistau and Atyrau oblasts. Shenkkan planned to go to the village Berezovka of West Kazakhstan oblast. Its inhabitants insisted on their resettlement from territory of Karachaganak minefield during some years.

Policemen came to rental apartment, where Nathaniel Shenkkan lived on February 27, 2012. They said that Nathaniel violated the law, because he was not registered in migration police.

On February 28, 2012 Nathaniel Shenkkan said that after the visit of policemen, press servicewoman of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has contacted with him. She said that there was a misunderstanding with Nathaniel Shenkkan, because policemen had no right to insist on his registration.

Nathaniel Shenkkan did not intend to go to Department of Internal Affairs (West Kazakhstan Oblast); he has been sure that the incident would be settled after the intervention of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Journalist could not explain, how police could determine the place of his residence.
