Editor-in-chief of newspaper "Vzglyad" I. Vinyavskiy was arrested for two months

On January 26, 2012 Almaly District Court №1 of Almaty has sanctioned the arrest of editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Vzglyad" I. Vinyavskiy for two months on assize in isolation ward of DKNB. There was a close trial contrary to norms of Criminal and Procedural Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Media outlets and observers could not attend it. Supporters of I. Vinyavskiy and observers, who awaited a trial more three hours and left. It became known that judgment was delivered after 19.00 p.m. with closed doors.

Editor-in-chief of independent edition "Vzglyad" I. Vinyavskiy was detained by security service officers of KNB of the Republic of Kazakhstan on January 23, 2012. He was charged with public exhortations for the forcible seizure of power, forcible retention of power, disruption of the safety of the state, or forcible changing of the constitutional order, as well as forcible disruption of the integrity of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the unity of its territory, as well as distribution of materials with such content for those purposes, the same acts committed with the use of the mass information media, or committed by an organised group under article 170 p.2 of Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Leaflets, which were seized almost two years ago, in April, 2010 from citizens. They had no any contact with him.

There will be a examination of petition of the editor-in-chief on change the detention to recognizance not to leave on January 30, 2012 in Almaty City Court.
