Editorial staffs of five opposition newspapers were fined on KZT 100 000 000

On October 25, 2010 officers of tax district inspections provided complex tax audit reports for an overall amount of KZT100000000 (USD680272) for owners and publishers of opposition newspapers such as, “Vzglyad”, “Azat”, “Alga”, “Golos Respubliki” and “Moya Respublika” . Chief editors of editions have said about it at press conference in Almaty.
Participants of press conference have said that they received notices of the conduction of complex tax audit of activity of enterprises in connection with opening of criminal case against staff of printing house “Kometa S”. Opposition newspapers such as, “Vzglyad”, “Azat”, “Alga”, “Golos Respubliki” and “Moya Respublika” were printed there.
Editorial staffs have addressed to Specialized Inter District Economic Court of Almaty with claims. They were unsatisfied by illegal actions of officers of tax inspection. Officers of tax police have received notices of suspension of tax inspection before the rendering of court decision.
The court of first instance has dismissed claim of editorial staffs. There is no any decision of city court; ruling of court of first instance did not come to law-enforcement.
In spite of it tax officers provided notices of conduction of tax inspection and then tax audit reports for editorial staffs.
Editorial staffs were surprised by actions of tax officers. It was connected with change of figures in tax audit reports. There was no any real tax audit in editorial offices of opposition newspapers. They think that there is a pressure upon editorial staffs.
