Legal Media Literacy Workshop in Astana
On 10 December 2024, the International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech "Adil Soz," in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan, organised a workshop for press service representatives of state bodies in Astana. The event was part of the project "Legal Support and Enhancing Legal Knowledge for Journalists and Bloggers."
The workshop was led by Sergey Utkin, a practising lawyer and human rights advocate specialising in media law. During the seminar, participants discussed key aspects of the Law "On Mass Media" and its implications for the activities of state agencies. They also received recommendations on effective engagement with journalists.
Special attention was given to avoiding accusations of obstructing journalists' professional activities. The workshop covered legislation related to false information and defamation and explored practical approaches to resolving conflicts at the legal level.
We extend our gratitude to all participants for their active involvement and interest in improving legal literacy in the media sphere. Stay tuned for updates to ensure you don't miss upcoming events and educational projects!
