Adil Soz Foundation begins work on a chatbot project for journalists

15 october 2026

As part of the Digital Action Lab, the Adil Soz Foundation has begun developing a chatbot for regional journalists. Its purpose is to help members of the media community quickly find the information they need and receive practical guidance in emergency situations involving violations of their rights.

In particular, the chatbot will provide step-by-step guidance on what to do in cases of denial of access to information, detention, cyberattacks, blocking of websites and accounts, as well as other situations that journalists and bloggers may encounter in their work.

The digital assistant is expected to help users independently identify the first steps they should take, learn about their rights and ways to protect them, and understand where they can turn for assistance.

Work on the chatbot has already begun. Its development is one of the practical areas of the Adil Soz Foundation’s participation in the Digital Action Lab programme.

In July this year, Adil Soz President Nazira Darimbet took part in an international Digital Action Lab (DAL) workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. The event brought together representatives of 15 civil society organisations from countries of the Global South participating in the programme’s third cohort.

Digital Action Lab is an international programme implemented by the global civil society alliance CIVICUS as part of the Digital Democracy Initiative. It aims to support civil society organisations, strengthen their digital capacities, and promote the use of technology to protect civil rights and freedoms.

Participants in the third cohort gathered in Nairobi for a Co-Design Workshop, a practical session focused on jointly developing and refining project ideas.

Representatives of the participating organisations exchanged experience, discussed the use of digital tools to address social challenges, and built cooperation with partners from other countries.

Participation in the international programme also enables the Adil Soz Foundation to exchange experience with human rights organisations from other countries, explore digital solutions, and apply new tools to protect freedom of expression in Kazakhstan.
