The investigation into the case of Vladimir and Nargiz Severny must be objective and transparent

On the evening of April 20, journalists Vladimir and Nargiz Severny were detained in Almaty. Today, their children released a video message in which the journalists' eldest son stated that they have been unable to contact their parents and have very little information about their situation. Subsequently, the Telegram channel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Polisia.kz, published a brief press release stating that the "S. spouses" were detained on suspicion of extortion related to the publishing of negative article about an entrepreneur.

The "Adil soz" Foundation is in contact with the family and the Severnys' lawyer. As far as we know, the lawyer is bound by a non-disclosure agreement and has limited communication with the defense. This lack of information creates an informational vacuum and undermines public confidence in the investigative actions.

It also emphasizes the importance of strictly observing the rights of the suspects and their children. Moreover it expects the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan to provide timely updates on the progress of the investigation.
