The court extended the arrest of AbzhanNews founder Makhambet Abzhan for one more month
"The term of arrest of independent journalist Makhambet Abzhan was extended for a completely far-fetched reason. Allegedly, the victims did not study the case, and Abzhan can escape," Tolegen Shaikov, the journalist's lawyer, said on Facebook.
As it was reported, Makhambet Abzhan, the founder of the Telegram channel ABZHAN NEWS, was detained early in the morning on July 3 in Nur-Sultan. On July 5, by court arrested him for 2 months. He is suspected of extortion on a particularly large scale. Observers believe that the journalist was "framed" judging by the way the money was transferred, and the speed the Anti-Corruption Service's disseminated press release and provided details to certain media.
Lawyer Shaikov informed that the investigation was completed on October 5, but he cannot study the case files: the anti-corruption service investigator has established the order for studying the case- the victims first, then Makhambet and the lawyers.
"There are just 14 volumes in total, and they are studying them for a month and a half! The investigative court has not considered my complaint that I filed on November 8," the lawyer says.
The arrest was extended at the request of the investigator of the Anti-Corruption Service.
