Police detained suspects in the attack on the office of ElMedia

On November 25, the police detained suspects who four times broke windows in the business center where the editorial office of ElMedia is located. The attacks lasted for 4 months and were accompanied by threatening messages.

The detainees were two 18-year-old guys, one from Almaty, the other is a resident of Taraz. The police qualified their actions as "Petty hooliganism", for which they may face either a fine of 15 thousand 900 tenge, or administrative arrest for up to 10 days.

This morning, the attackers at the ElMedia office were detained. Police could not find  them for a month and a half. And systematic targeted actions against the media outlet it considered just a hooliganism. Those who organized the harassment of ElMedia and its head Gulzhan Yergalieva have not been found, as well as those guilty of other similar crimes. The appearance of fake accounts with illegal content, offensive comments, the placement of journalists' phones on porn sites, etc. continues.

The protection of journalists should not be a one-time action, the problem should be solved systematically. And this requires special legal protection of journalists and the media in the event of attacks and various threats and constant real and effective actions of law enforcement agencies to ensure it.
