development of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Mr. Darkhan Kydyrali
To the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan
Mr. Mukhtar Tleuberdi
Open letter
Since the last year at least 9 kazakhstani mass media have received demands from the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Communications (Roskomnadzor) to delete certain articles from their websites. All of those media are registered and operating in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Since most of them did not comply with the demands, Russian state bodies sued them and some media have already received summons to Russian courts.
The Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan should ensure state policy implementation in the field of mass media and protect the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Censorship is prohibited in Kazakhstan.
In the view of the above, please explain are there any international treaties that give Russian state bodies the right to send summons to the Kazakh media and journalists? What measures does the Republic of Kazakhstan intend to take in response to the above actions of the state bodies of the Russian Federation?
Sincerely,
Karla Jamankulova
President of "Adil soz"
