Court issued decree about closure of Caraganda TV Channel “ART”

There was a decision in relation to TV Company “ART” in Specialized Inter District Economic Court of Caraganda region on June 10, 2009. It was connected with stoppage (“on-air”) of activity of TV Channel “ART” and cancellation of registration certificate.
Public Prosecutor has demanded stoppage of TV Company “ART” broadcasting. He has referred to constitutional prohibition of incitement of national enmity. The charges stemmed from information “Kazakhs people, join to us and let’s we beat Russian people” on SMS-chat of TV Company “ART” on March 21, 2009. There was a reply such as, “We are ready!” in fifteen minutes.
The staff of TV Channel “ART” has explained that it was connected with technical error. Messages have been in Kazakh language, but technical person, who moderated SMS-chat and passed messages “on-air”, did not know Kazakh language. He was given an administrative punishment.
Police has found authors of messages. There was 18-years-old young man and a state official.
Head of TV Channel “ART” Ruslan Nikonovich is sure that “on-air” dangerous messages have been motive of pressure upon TV Channel “ART”. He thinks that it is connected with struggle for tender money.
