Initiative group of some heads of mass media and NGO’s make announcement about their appeal, addressed to President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev:

Mister President, Dear Nursultan Abishevich!

We are chief editors of newspapers and internet-editions, representatives of NGO’s of protection of speech in Kazakhstan apply for you about audience for discussion of the situation in legislation of mass media in Kazakhstan and inadmissible position of some editions and its heads, made by guilt of law-enforcement and court organs.

All our proposals of regulation of disputable issues in Parliament of laws “On Mass Media” and attempts of prevention of repressive actions in relation to some editions were not understood and had no any positive results.

Deputies, state officials and executive bodies do not react to us. Statements of international organizations are ignored. They are connected with non-admission legal violation in relation to Kazakhstan’s mass media and journalists. As a result of it there is form dictatorship of the power in freedom of speech in Kazakhstan and fair blame in the country and in the world.

Principles of the democracy, proclaimed in our Constitution- it is prohibition of censorship and guarantee of freedom of speech, undermined by state bodies. They have to provide these principles.

We apply for you to make control of this critical situation with restriction of rights of mass media in Kazakhstan paying attention to our grounds during personal meeting.

Detailed arguments about necessity of such meeting we sent to you in accordance with a set form and publish in our mass media. We ask for people as witnesses.

We hope to give you our appeal at Eurasian Media Forum on April 23, 2009. There will be reading of ruthless amendments of mass media in Majilis on April 29, 2009. They will be come to action. It is inadmissible!
