There was open letter of the editorial staff of the newspaper “Respublika- delovoye obozrenie”, addressed to Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov.
Dear Prime Minister!
There was something wrong with our newspaper from Monday. Our readers call to us, including servicemen from government. They are interested in publication of the newspaper in Friday. First of all we did not pay any attention to these questions and conversations. But, today on Wednesday there were indirect features that some printing houses can refuse to cooperate with editorial staff and abrogate contracts.
After analysis of situation we have made a conclusion that there was abnormal agiotage, which had been around our newspaper, it was connected with our critical position in relation to government. Probably, someone did not like our publications. As a result of it influenced on publication of our newspaper. Is it connecting with events 2001-2002?
Dear Prime Minister!
Our appeal to you is not casual. Today, you are Head of Executive Power in the Republic of Kazakhstan and responsible for actions of state bodies. As Prime Minister, you have to provide normal activity for mass media. We ask for you to solve this problem. Probably, someone from your officials has tried to make pressure upon capital printing houses.
As for our position, we have intention to give objective estimation of actions of state bodies, in spite of surnames and position. We are sure that press-is single instrument of feedback of citizens to the power. We have protected right of citizens for freedom of speech and right of journalists for freedom of press.
The editorial staff of this newspaper had pressure from different state structures. From 2001 issue of the newspaper was stopped by initiative state organs; newspapers had fines, suits by different reasons. As a result of it newspaper had changed its title.
Editorial staff had to publish newspaper using copying machine, when printing houses refused to make publication of next issue.
Today, one of the printing houses has refused to publish newspaper. As a result of it we have made an appeal to you.
