Media law as it should be
On February 28 in Nur SultanAdil Soz Foundation, , conducts a round table discussion "MEDIA IN THE EPOCH OF NEW CHALLENGES" in partnership with the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the international organization ARTICLE 19.
The main issue of the meeting is the improvement of media legislation. It is proposed to develop the Information Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, that would include the norms of the current laws “On Mass Media”, “On Broadcasting”, “On Access to Information” and, possibly, others. It is also proposed to develop two laws: on guarantees of freedom of speech and on media. Or maybe it would be enough just to make principal amendments to the law “On Mass Media”?
Actual issues to consider are the status of online media and social networks and the interaction of the state and the media. Should social networks be regulated? If so, what such regulation should be like? What should be the principles and forms of media registration, what is the role of code of ethics for journalists?
ARTICLE 19 senior lawyer Paige Morrow will tell about the recommendations of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe on a new media concept. Together we will discuss whether these criteria can be included into the Kazakhstani media law.
The participants in the round table disussion are mainly lawyers professionally involved in media legislation.
If you are interested covering the discussion for your readers, viewers, listeners, you are welcome! Nur-Sultan, the Kazzhol Hotel, Eurasia Conference Hall, at 9.30 AM.
