Lukpan Akhmedyarov insists on observance of his rights through the prosecutor's office and appeal
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Uralskaya Nedelya, Lukpan Akhmedyarov, filed an application to the prosecutor’s office for unlawful police actions. The issue is the detention of the journalist on the square on June 12.
- I was on the square, fulfilling my professional duties, including filming how police officers were detaining people. The police detained me too, without any explanations. They only thing they said, they were going to interrogate me in a criminal case. However, there was no summons, no other documents explaining my detention. I consider this to be impeding my professional journalistic activities. After consulting with lawyers, I decided to file a complaint against the police with the prosecutor’s office. That is what I did, - Lukpan Akhmedyarov commented on the situation.
Besides, the journalist filed an appeal against the decision of the court of first instance, that ruled him to pay a penalty for insubordination and struggling on detention. The case relates to the same incident that happened on June 12th. The amount of the fine that Akhmedyarov must pay is 20 MCI. It is almost 50 thousand tenge.
