Lukpan Akhmedyarov, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Uralskaya Nedelya”, was taken to the administrative court

 

On the morning of June 17, Lukpan Akhmedyarov, editor-in-chief of the Uralskaya Nedelya newspaper, was summoned to the Abay police department of Uralsk for interrogation under part 1 of Article 667 of the Code of Administrative Infractions -  Disobedience to the lawful order or the requirement of the employee (serviceman) of law enforcement or special public authority, body of military police, the bailiff, bailiff in connection with execution of official duties by them, and is equal hindrance of their lawful activity.

 

From there he was taken to the administrative court of Uralsk.

 

According to L.Akhmedyarov,  it became clear in court that the police had drawn up a protocol two days earlier without his participation. Allegedly, on June 12, during the detention of journalists in the central square of the city, Akhmedyarov refused to obey the demands of the police and actively resisted. Lukpan explained that he really hadn’t immediately agree to go to the police van, because according to the head of the local police Kenzhebek Kuspaev he had to be delivered to police withing the frameworks of a criminal case. However, neither the summons, nor any other documents proving the legality of his claims had been provided. The editor-in-chief  of "Uralskaya Nedelya" reported it by telephone to the newspaper.

 

According to Akhmedyarov, the court was postponed to 3 PM in Uralsk,  because he was not provided with a lawyer.

 

According to the article, Lukpan Akhmedyarov faces up to 5 days of administrative arrest or a fine of 50,500 tenge (20 MCI). Also, the court may just issue a warning.
