In memory of Rozlana Taukina

It seemed that  Rozlana Taukina would be close associate of Adil Soz for many  years more as she has been for  of the previous 20 years - our reliable, faithful and, unlike some of us, resilient colleague.

Sure, her hallmark was her sunny smile. Not everyone was aware that the charming cheerful woman was a rare fighter. She fought for a finish for her TV channel "Totem" - the first of the independent TV channels in our country, she fought for the last court instance, though being awre that you don't bring a knife to a gunfight. Her "Pravdivaya Gazeta" was banned, trampling over all possible the decencies. On February 24, 2014 "Adil soz" reported in its monitoring of the violations of freedom of speech:

“Yeraly Bekbayev judge of the Bostandyk District Court of Almaty,  announced the court ruling to ban "Pravdivaya Gazeta". The judgement was delivered the day before in the absence of defendants and was based on the demands of Bauyrzhan Zhumakanov, the prosecutor of the Bostandyk district of Almaty to ban the newspaper since the administrative court repeatedly imposed penalties on it the previous year. The editorial board is intended to appeal this ruling at all judicial instances, including UN Human Rights Committee.

As it was reported, "Pravdivaya Gazeta" was first issued in April 2013. All copies of the first issue were confiscated on the pretext that the newspaper did not publish the publication frequency. In August 2013 the newspaper was suspended for three months due to the fact that it published an overstated circulation of 1 thousand copies.

On December 5, 2013, the newspaper was sentenced-in his absence on the basis of the protocols of the Almaty mayor's office. The newspaper was fined for 50 Monthly Calculation Index because the issue of a newspaper, dated November 22, was printed by the printing house on November 20. The jugde decided to suspend the newspaper for three months for the fact that the output was not clearly printed in the draft print of the same issue. Representatives of the newspaper presented evidence to the court of appeal that no copies had been on sale until November 22. Unclear output was the result of typographical defects, that the publishing house improved timely. However, the court of appeal upheld the decision to suspend the newspaper and the fine it.

Then there were “Word of the People”, Rezonans.kz, Rozlana was a guarantor of Zhanbolat Mamai, when he was arrested, she was public defender of Kazys Toguzbayev, she was detained for defending ADAM bol, fined for a flash mob “Freedom to journalists sentenced for their professional activity!” and much more.
