Protecting the rights of prisoners or slander?

On May 15, the Turskib District Court of Almaty continued consideration of the criminal case on defamation charges against Konstantin Gudauskas, the chairman of the republican public association Coalition on the Protection of Prisoners' Rights .

On December 10, 2018 “The First Channel“ Eurasia ”broadcasted an interview with K. Gudauskas telling that the heating season failed in the penitentiary facility  LA 155/18 of the Penal System Committee of the Ministry o Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Z.A. Baimuratov, branch director of the republican state enterprise with the right of economic jurisdiction “Enbek-Zhaugashty”  considered that the head of the NGO accused him of embezzling  in a grand scale. He asks the court to account Gudauskas K. guilty of slander, inflict punishment on him and recover compensation for non-pecuniary damage in the amount of 10 million tenge.

The prosecution has not yet provided the court with evidence of the guilt of K. Gudauskas, who pleaded not guilty of the crime incriminated to him.

The next hearing is scheduled for 3 PM, May 23, 2019. Adil Soz Fondation lawyer Tamara Simakhina represents  K.Gudauskas before the court  in a civil suit.
