The Adil Soz Foundation appealed to the National Security Committee, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Communications regarding blocking of the website of "Nasha Gazeta" newspaper
On November 16, the International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech “Adil Soz” appealed the Republican state enterprise “State Technical Service” of the National Security Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Ministry of Information and Communications with the request to inform about the reasons of blocking the website of Kostanay regional weekly newspaper “Nasha Gazeta” www.ng.kz.
As it was reported, the access to the website from the territory of Kazakhstan became unavailable since November 15. In its request “Adil soz” informed that the editorial office did not receive any official information about the reasons of blocking from state bodies and reminded that the reasons and procedure of blocking access to websites are strictly regulated by the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Communications” and “On Mass Media” and a number of others legal acts while freedom of speech, receipt and dissemination of information are protected by the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
"Nasha Gazeta" and its Internet portal are popular independent editions that provide straight information of the life of the region and the country, raise acute problems of the Kostanay region and consistently achieve solutions of those problems. Adil Soz asks the Prosecutor General’s Office to give a proper legal assessment of the violations and take measures to restore and protect the legal rights of the recipients of information in case the blocking of the website www.ng.kz is unlawful.
