Three years long lawsuit for journalist Nurzhan Baymuldin
The correspondent of the Republican newspaper "Express K" Nurzhan Baymuldin was sued by the hero of the article published three years ago.
On August 14, 2015 the newspaper" Express K "published Nurzhan Baymuldin’s article “The shame lasts more than a hundred years". It read that the ceased criminal processdings on rape of a resident of Akmola region Nadezhda Kovaleva (the name had been changed) was sent back to the Sandyktau police Department for further investigation. The victim charged a crime against businessman Alexey Jeiranov.
In January 2016 Alexy Jeiranov filed a defamation action against editorial staff of the newspaper "Express K", the correspondent of the publication to Nurzhan Baymuldin and Nadezhda Kovaleva and demanded compensation of moral damage in the amount of 200 million tenge. Besides he demanded to oblige N. Baymuldin to publish a refutation. However, Jeiranov soon withdrew the lawsuit, because the Prosecutor General's office annulled the decree of the investigator to cease the criminal proceedings, and sent the case back for further investigation.
In August of 2017, the court acquitted Alexey Jeiranov. The sentence came into force in October 2017.
In may 2018, the businessman again filed a defamation action against the editorial office of Express K, the author of the article and the victim. He asked the court to declare the information about him that was dissiminated by the newspaper, to be contradicting the reality. He also asked to refute it. A.Jeiranov demanded 205 million tenge as a compensation of the moral injury (200 million tenge he demended from the editorial office and the journalist, and 5 million tenge – from the N. Kovaleva).
