Zhanbolat Mamai sentenced to three years of restriction of freedom

Mamay was found guilty under art. 193, part 3, pp. b) and c) CC RK (Legalization of money or other property acquired illegally). The journalist was sentenced to three years of restriction of freedom with confiscation of property. Also, Zhanbolat Mamay was forbidden to engage in journalistic activities for three years. In addition, the judge sentenced Mamay 120 hours of community service and installed probation control.

 Considering the fact that  Mamay was in custody from10.02.2017 to 07.09.2017, the term of restriction of freedom will be 2 years 5 months and 5 days.

Zhanbolat Mamay was released in the courtroom.

Numerous supporters, colleagues, relativeswho gathered in the coutroom, welcomed the release of Zhanbolat with flowers and applause.

Commentary of "Adil soz":

Of course, the release of Zhanbolat after a 7-month detention gladdens. He is still free, with his family inspite of the ban on the profession, in fact deprived of the right to freedom of expression and freedom of movement. But the sentence does not give answers to the numerous questions that arose during the criminal prosecution.
