The trial on Zhanbolat Mamay’s: the fourth day
On August 24 the hearing on Zhanbolat Mamay’s case lasted for 20 minutes.
During this time, the judge rejected the motion presented by the defense party at the previous hearing. The defence requested to question journalist Yermurat Bapy. The request for interrogation of the honored lawyer of Ukraine, Professor Nikolai Khabarnyuk was rejected as well. The lawyers wanted him to give a scientific justification for the term “money laundering" in accordance with the European Convention and international norms. The judge said that he is a lawyer himself and is able to give a well-qualified interpretation of the legal terms. He promised make his conclusion in the advisory room.
The prosecutor said that he did not understand what was being said in the motion about the Ukrainian lawyer, and asked to provide a written copy to him.
Zhaksylyk Zharimbetov subpoenaed for additional questioning did not appear for unknown reason. The court summoned him for additional questioning on its own initiative to clarify the discrepancies in the testimonies of Zh. Mamay and Zharimbetov concerning Mamay’s meeting with Ablyazov.
Earlier, Zharimbetov said at the court hearings that he had met with Zhanbolat in Ablyazov's office when Mamay was in Vienna.
Mamai denied that and insisted that what had been really happening was told by him at the interrogation and he did not know the reason why Zharimbetov gave such a testimony.
The next hearing is scheduled for 11 AM on August 29.
