Readers rendered their support to editorial staff of newspaper “Uralskaya Nedelya” after wasteful court decision

16 july 2010
On July 08, 2010 Supervisory Authority of West Kazakhstan Regional Court has dismissed appeal of the newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" and journalist Lukpan Akhmedyarov. It has left the decision of two inferior instances in force. So, newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" and journalist Lukpan Akhmedyarov should pay KZT20000000 (USD13605) as moral damage to the company "Tengizneftstroy". Chief Editor of the newspaper "Uralskaya Nedelya" Tamara Eslyamova thought that this decision has been unfeasible. As a result of it the independent edition will be wasted and closed.

The charges stemmed from article “For the coverage of tender” by L. Akhmedyarov, which was published in the newspaper “Uralskaya Nedelya” on August 06, 2009. JSC “Tengizneftstroy” has begun construction on place of prospective gas – transmission pipeline “Zhympity – Karatuba” before summarizing. Servicemen of JSC “Tengizneftstroy” have been sure in their victory on the tender.

Lawyer of plaintiff did not deny fact of preparation which was done earlier, concerning project tender in the court. He has provided other explanation for it; found two untruth extracts in the article.

The businessman Barlyk Mendygaziev proposed KZT10000000 (USD68027) to staff of the newspaper “Uralskaya Nedelya” for fulfillment of court decision.

Mendygaziev said that he provided his money for editorial staff. He thought that it was not his PR action; tried to gave his help. Earlier, newspaper “Uralskaya Nedelya” lent businessmen of Uralsk its support. It will be a good example for other businessmen of Uralsk.
