Journalists of “KazInform” have begun strike

On June 25, 2010 employees of news agency “KazInform” (Kazakhstan) have begun a strike. They did not get a salary during three months.

At the beginning of June journalists addressed to staff of the company. They asked to pay off duty. Servicemen of Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed, that duty will be liquidated till June 22, 2010.

Servicemen of news agency said that this problem has been annually. The staff of company and representative officers of Ministry of Communication and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan explained it as official circumlocution.

At the end of February 2010 employees of “KazInform” wrote and placed a letter on blog of Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Karim Masimov. They were dissatisfied by detention of wage. He should take under his personal control financial activity of the company and make proper control. The company had a debt of KZT90000000 (USD61225) of tax allocations.

News Agency “KazInform” - is an oldest state press agency in Kazakhstan. It became a incomer of Orenburg-Turgay of ROST. It was founded in 1920 and renamed in KazTA in 1937. In September 1997 the agency was renamed in republican information agency KazIA by order of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It has a status of national company and a title “KazInform”.
