Journalists Vladimir and Nargiz Severny Detained in Almaty

The children of the journalists reported their parents' detention in a video message. The incident took place last night right in front of their eyes.

"Last night, at 7 PM in the Dostyk Plaza shopping center, my parents were arrested before my eyes, as well as the eyes of my younger sister and brother. Several men in uniforms detained them while investigators recorded the process on video and searched their personal belongings. Mom was immediately taken to the police department, and they didn't even allow her to talk to us. Dad was taken away after he drove us home. He reassured us that everything would be fine. Despite being shocked, I overheard the accusation brought against my parents: extortion," said Ratmir Severny, the eldest son of the journalists.
According to Ratmir, he managed to speak to his mother once when she called from the lawyer's phone, but he has been unable to contact his father.

A day prior, Nargiz Severnaya posted a message on a social network, suggesting that the Ministry of Defense may have been unhappy with Vladimir Severny's sharply critical articles about the army, raising the possibility of provocations against him.
