International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech «Adil Soz» has conducted analysis of\r\nviolations of right to freedom of expression, receiving and dissemination of\r\ninformation in January, 2017 in Kazakhstan.

There was following information:
\r\n\r\n
-Court hearings were launched in Almaty. Earlier, Ex-Minister of Finances\r\nand State Revenues Z. Kakimzhanov filed suit against journalists of editorial\r\nstaff of www.ratel.kz. The court has made a finding to secure suit;\r\nit has banned defendants to publish some information on lawsuit in press and\r\nalso, post some information in printed media and in Internet.
\r\n\r\n
-The editor-in-chief Central Asian Monitor and publisher of the website\r\nRadiotochka.kz Bigeldy Gabdullin was found guilty in extortion and he was\r\nsentenced to five years of restriction of liberty.
\r\n\r\n
- The Chairman of Public Association «Adilet»\r\nAmangeldy Batyrbekov was guilty in slander with regard to prosecutor. Журналистсобвинительнымприговоромнесогласен.
\r\n\r\n
-The website www.zhumyrtkanews.kz\r\nannounced about suspension of its functioning because of threats of criminal\r\nprosecutions.
\r\nIn January, 2017 four judicial acts towards cases over\r\nprotection of honour, dignity and business reputation were passed (including one\r\nin the appellate instance). And three ones were passed in favour of media\r\noutlets, journalists and citizens. There were demands of compensation of moral\r\ndamage in the amount of KZT60000000.
\r\nSince the beginning\r\nof the year in connection with execution of right to freedom of expression,\r\nreceiving and dissemination of information, they were brought:
\r\n\r\n
- 2 charges with\r\nslander
\r\n- 1 charge with\r\nextortion;
\r\n- 4 charges with\r\nincitement of social, national and religious enmity (article 174 of Criminal\r\nCode of the Republic of Kazakhstan);
\r\n- 11 pre-trial\r\nclaims and suits on protection of honour, dignity and business reputation.
