Independent journalist Victor Kovtunovskiy was fined for protest in protection of Eugene Zhovtis

On September 11, 2009 Almaty Administrative Specialized Inter District Court has fined independent journalist Victor Kovtunovskiy for organization of non-sanctioned protest. It has bound him payment of 25 monthly assessment indices (it means 32400 tenge).
Victor Kovtunovskiy knew that he has been found guilty in commitment of administrative violation by default under article 373 p.1 of Code of Administrative Violations of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with judgment on July 17, 2009. He was warned about participation in action of support of independent mass media on June 24, 2009. Now, he is charged of repetitive violation under article 373 p.3 of Code of Administrative Violations of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Some other participants of the action in protection of freedom of speech (in June) were punished in administrative way. But none of them and Kovtunovskiy was informed about it.
On September 09, 2009 Victor Kovtunovskiy and human rights activists Bareta Yergalieva and Tamara Savina have come to fountain near trade house “Zangar” in the centre of Almaty. They hold in their hands placards “Today is Zhovtis, tomorrow you are”. They have disagreed with sentence, passed for human rights activist Eugene Zhovtis. He was convicted for four years of imprisonment and charged of violation of rules of the road and rules for using transport vehicles by persons operating them, which entailed by negligence human death.
