Lukpan Akhmedyarov is again in crosshairs of police and public prosecutors

On January 30, on Saturday, the chief editor of Uralskaya Nedelya, Lukpan Akhmedyarov, was summoned to testify at the Abay police department of Uralsk. A publi prosecutor ordered to start  a pre-trial investigation of the article "Land scandal in Uralsk - prosecutor's mother became the owner of five land plots" published by "Uralskaya Nedelya" on November 27, 2020

Police did not tell Akhmedyarov on what charge he was proseuted. The journalist refused to answer questions without a lawyer. After that poilce officer said to him: "... well, then we will meet on Monday."

“The article told about violations of the law while distributing  land plots in the city of Uralsk. As a result of these violations, several land plots became the property of the mother of an employee of the prosecutor's office of Western Kazakhstan region. That person supervised the observance of the law during the process of  distribution of land plots by the city akimat (mayor's office), ”Lukpan wrote on his Facebook page. He explained that while working on the article, the newspaper sent an information request to the prosecutor's office and to the anti-corruption department with a request to provide information on the results of the investigation. The journalists were not provided requested information,  under the pretext the secrecy of the investigation.

“And now, two months later, the prosecutor’s office instituteы criminal proceedings against me,”  Akhmedyarov said.
