Court marathon of Anara Suleyeva
For more than a year Shymkent official N. Makhambetov was making efforts to punish the journalist Anar Suleyeva for the article he did not like.
As it was reported, in December 2019, the editor of the Temirkazyk-Oy newspaper Anar Suleyeva asked a question on Fecebook about the responsibility of Makhambetov for using a company car during off-duty hours, including taking it to go to the corporate banquet. After the banquet the car was put to a polie impound. At that time Makhambetov was the acting head of the Department of Justice of Shymkent. The civil servant applied to court, accusing Anar of slander (at that time it was still a criminal offense, article 130, part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan).
In court A. Suleyeva proved the reliability of the facts she mentioned in her article. On March 19, 2020, the Enbekshinsky District Court acquitted the journalist.
Then N. Makhambetov decided to defend his honor and dignity in common pleas court and to recover from the journalist 1 000 000 (one million) tenge for the emotinal distress. After some time, he withdrew his claim, but later he filed it again. The Enbekshinsky District Court of Shymkent was not responsive to his sufferings and dismissed the claim. He appealed the decision.
On January 27, 2021, the Board of Appeals of the Shymkent City Court chaired by Judge N. Bibolov put the end to this case. It upheld the district court decision.
