"Semey Ainasy" news agency demands information through legal action
On October 4, 2018 first hearing of the complaint of the news agency to the State University named after Shakarimin took place at Semey City Court. The issue was appeal of the university's refusal to provide information.
"Semey Ainasy" news agency asked the university for information on the execution of the tender contract the university had won: where the information materials and banners are placed and what are the links that refer to those materials. The university refused to provide information, saying that the website where tender lots are posted is not a media outlet.
“Semey Ainasy” did not accept the university's refusal and took legal action under Chapter 29 of Civil Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The representative of the university stated a completely different reason of the refusal: allegedly, they did not know that a news agency is a media outlet. Although the written request of the journalists indicates the number and date of media outlet certificate of registration issued to the agency by the Ministry of Information.
The next hearing is scheduled for October 9, 2018.
