Parole of chief editor of newspaper "Alma-Ata Info" Ramazan Yesergepov was dismissed

On July 13, 2010 administration of colony of standard regime № 158/2 of Taraz dismissed a parole of Ramazan Yesergepov.

Ramazan Yesergepov had a penalty on January 20, 2010. He was transferred from investigative isolation ward to the colony; was recorded in barrack №3 after some days of quarantine. Ramazan Yesergepov was transferred to barrack №4. It has been full of prisoners supposedly. This fact was formulated as a offense of prisoner.

Yesergepov was not transferred to penal settlement. He was punished on January 26, 2010. Ramazan Yesergepov's wife Raushan Yesergepova said that her husband protected his legal rights and supported other prisoners.

R. Yesergepov announced his decision to go on hunger-strike from 06 to July 11, 2010 to protest his unlawful imprisonment as well as what he sees as the failure of the OSCE to pay attention to infringements of rights committed by the organizations' current chairman Kazakhstan.

The charges stemmed from article “Who does rule our country President or CNS?”, which was published in the newspaper “Alma-Ata Info” on November 21, 2008 in which the journalist used the content of letters written by Chief of Zhambyl Regional Department of Committee of National Security, which was provided for Chairman of CNS Amangeldy Schabdarbayev. Criminal case was opened against company “Taraz” and its founder Sultan Makhmadov, who tried to meet with President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev. He wanted to influence on investigative process.

There was a close legal proceeding in court №2 of Taraz. Ramazan Esergepov was sentenced to three years of imprisonment in colony with a general regime. Court of Appeal Instance and Supervisory Board of Zhambyl Regional Court remained the sentence in force. This sentence was passed in spite of article 19 of Criminal Procedural Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Human rights activists and journalists were unsatisfied by illegal actions with regard to Ramazam Esergepov during investigation and legal proceeding.
