May 3 - World Press Freedom Day
On May 3, many countries around the world celebrate World Press Freedom Day. This annual international initiative was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993 to remind the world about the significance of press freedom and its important role in maintaining democracy and protecting individual rights.
On this day, journalists, publishers, and other representatives of the media discuss the importance of press freedom, the role it plays in society, and the restrictions and challenges faced by the media.
Free access to information is a key element in promoting the development of democracy and fostering transparency, openness in government, and the freedom of expression, which includes the freedom of the press. These are fundamental rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other international documents.
This year marks the 30th celebration of World Press Freedom Day.
"Adil Soz" Foundation is the only organization in Kazakhstan that consistently conducts and publishes monitoring reports on violations of freedom of expression. Freedom of expression is not only an inalienable right but also the basic foundation on which all other rights of individuals rely.
