Monitoring of position of freedom of speech in Kazakhstan January, 2014 (Digest)
In January, 2014 monitoring of international foundation “Adil Soz” has registered 77 reports. There were:
- In Uralsk, trial on a person, who suspected in organization of attempted homicide of journalist Lukpan Akhmedyarov was launched;
-Public Prosecutor has demanded to shut down newspaper “Pravdivaya Gazeta” for administrative offences;
-Journalist Zhanna Zueva was found innocent in libel (slander). The sentence came into effect;
-Journalist Alexander Kharlamov demanded to discharge criminal case with regard to him. Alexander Kharlamov was charged with incitement of national enmity;
- The suit in the amount of KZT3000000 was instituted against newspaper “Tribuna-Sayasat Ulany”.
In general, since the start of January, 7 claims and suits on protection of honour, dignity and business reputation were brought against media outlets and citizens in the amount of three millions tenge.
